Aroostook County is becoming well known for two significant sled dog events: the Irving Woodlands Eagle Lake Sled Dog Races and Fort Kent’s Can-Am Crown International Sled Dog Races. These races, held annually in January and March attract professional teams and spectators from around the world, are not the only opportunities for people to participate in dog sledding culture in the county.
Local outfitters provide dog sledding experiences that range from quick family trips to seven hour-long journeys into the deep Maine woods. These all-inclusive trips are not only the perfect way to get a true dog sledding experience, but also the perfect way to view untouched areas of the Maine landscape.
