Downhill Skiing

Aroostook County is a downhill ski-lover’s dream. In addition to the fantastic snowfall, the county offers quality facilities, state-of-the-art equipment and family-friendly prices to make the perfect vacation destination for downhill skiing.

With several alpine ski areas within our region, downhill skiing is a growing recreational activity not only for local residents, but for tourists as well.

At 1,200 feet (381 meters), Bigrock Alpine Center in Mars Hill is the tallest ski area in the region. Bigrock made significant investments over the past seven years to ensure the facility is not only the best skiing in the region, but is also the best value. Improved snowmaking capabilities, new terrain, new lifts, as well as new grooming equipment make the slopes more enjoyable for all skill levels.

Cross-country skiing and snowshoe trails, as well as a snow-tube park, add variety to everyone’s winter sports experience.  Bigrock’s lodge has been expanded to include a new cafe with hot food off the grill, along with homemade soups, sandwiches and snacks.  Bigrock is the ultimate family-oriented winter facility: offering big mountain skiing with a small town atmosphere.

Lonesome Pine Trails in Fort Kent is Maine’s Northernmost Ski Area that specializes in taking a readily available natural resource — snow!– and turning it into hours of family fun.  The Rental Shop offers packages for Alpine and Nordic skiing, snowboarding and snowshoeing. The Lodge at Lonesome Pine offers delicious food, warm fires and great views of the action on the slopes.
